Beta |
Beta-sitosterol a recommended cure for acne, is a plant extract that was given wide attention for its anti-microbial properties. A number of disorders are said to be curable by
this miracle find, hence wide-spread studies were undertaken to prove its scientific facts.
Regrettably though, these same studies showed that beta-sitosterol is only one of
many sterols that come from plant and is abundant in foods such as rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, soybeans and peanuts.
Any related feature to its ability to cure acne
are only off-shoots of medical prescriptions for topical ointments with Vitamin A to promote cell growth as well as the occasional prescriptions for antibiotics.
A deeper understanding of the acne skin disorder provides one with the knowledge that this disease is hardly incurable but only controllable. Natural body processes such
as hormonal imbalance trigger the excessive production of oil, which when coupled with minor bacterial bodies result to the onset of acne disorder.

The improper treatment
and handling of this problem are the main culprits in its propagation to become a serious acne break-out. Beta-sitosterol possesses high-levels of attribute as an anti-microbial agent including anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral abilities.
Acne cures such as antibiotics and
topical ointments with significant doses of Vitamin A, merely provide the needed relief for skin problems experienced by a great number of individuals. |

Again emphasis is
made on the fact that acne disorders are not curable but only controllable. Hence the intake of beta-sitosterol food supplement, is only a response to medical advice for
proper dietary requirement in order to avoid severe acne outbreaks.
There is a need for caution though since like any other traditional medicines, dietary supplement may not react well with other prescribed medication while undergoing
treatments for acne.
Possible side effects are liable to aggravate other health issues because there is lack of standardization in the manufacture of such drugs.
The components differ among brands and it is highly possible that the form sold over the counter differs from what was used in research studies.
There are a number of
scientific inquiries concerning beta-sitosterol's anti-microbial abilities but initial results showed that potent artificially manufactured anti-microbial drugs tend to be more
damaging than helpful and at times, even fatal.

Another significant finding is that ingestion of beta-sitosterol produces positive effects on blood constraints. A scientific conclusion to this effect states: "improvement of
fibrinolytic capacity and plasminogen activity" which when simply interpreted in layman's term - the blood functions more efficiently.
In addition to this, an herb
known as "Saw Palmetto" from which beta-sitosterol can be extracted, has the useful characteristics of being able to promote hormonal balance. It has the ability to
decrease the level of androgen hormones, the primary hormones that triggers acne if excessively secreted. Perhaps now, one is in a better position to figure out the real score.
The next time somebody sales-talk you into buying beta-sitosterol as the answer to your acne problems,
better think twice.
