Acne is such a skin disease which makes you look ugly with dark spots and blisters all over your face. It can even cause a sense of shame and inferiority. There are several acne treatments available nowadays that can help you out in this matter.

Although no treatment has been invented so far that can fully cure this disease, it can at least prevent it from spreading to other regions of the body. Some acne treatments are aimed at improving the condition of scars and spots of individuals suffering from acne.

There are various types of treatment available such as home treatment, topical treatment, oral treatment and prescription medicines. We shall now discuss in details about each of these treatments.

Household treatment for acne: -
This is the best form of acne treatment as it has no side effects. It includes the following things: -

1) Cleanliness is desired in patients suffering from acne. You must cleanse the affected region at least two times a day. Be gentle and use some light soap to wash the affected area.

2) There are several chemists and druggists who offer antibacterial agents like benzoyl peroxide in the form of Clearasil Max for acne treatment. It causes the outer layer of the skin to get dried and shredded off to prevent the clogging of skin pores which in turn reduces the chance of infection.

3) It takes some time to get used to benzoyl peroxide. It is an oxidizing agent which can cause redness and irritation in the beginning. You have to first decrease its amount while applying for the first time and then increase it gradually.

4) If none of the household acne treatments show any positive effects within a period of to months then it indicates that you are suffering from severe forms of acne.

Prescription medicines for acne: -

In most of the cases, the skin specialists suggest the application of benzoyl peroxide for acne treatment. However, severe forms of acne will not respond to such treatments. Topical and oral treatment should then be tried out.

Topical treatments: - The topical treatments for acne include the following: -

1) Adapalene, a topical retinoid can be an effective acne treatment if applied twice a day. Composed of Vitamin A, this medicine induces the shedding of outer layer of the skin.

2) Azelaic acid is a substitute of benzoyl peroxide.

3) Antibiotic lotions like Dalacin T and Benzamycin has been proved to be quite effective in combating acnes bacteria.
Oral treatments: -
1) Tetracycline and other antibiotics help to prevent the plugging of pores by dead skin cells.
2) Some oral contraceptive pills are also efficient in the treatment of acne in women.
